We long to give a child a house full of love, laughter, and fun. Our house already has a cat and will someday have a dog or two. Maria's family is lucky enough to have a house on Cape Cod and we travel there every summer. Our family home on Cape Cod.

We have so much love and support from Maria's relatives. We share a building with her sister's family her husband and two amazing boys, who consider Maria a second mother - and we live half an hour from her parents, who are still in the old farmhouse where Maria grew up. Our lives are full of family dinners, Sunday lunches and family outings - both planned and impromptu.

Maria was a publications professional for years before moving back to her home state in 2001. Since then she has tried her hand at different things, settling finally on administrative work. Her passion, however, is making a home. More than one person has commented on her ability to create a nice space, a beautiful place for people to gather, eat, rest, play, whatever. Maria will leave her current job to become a full-time mom.

Maria has always wanted children.

Dave is a winemaker - a passion he discovered after he moved to the upstate New York area 15 years ago. And, not only does he like making wine, but he is really good at it! His wines have won many awards, both nationally and abroad. More important, it is a career that gives him the flexibility a dad needs to spend time with his wife and children.

We have a wonderful, beautiful life together, and want very much to share that life with a child. Because of our lives so far, and the way we experience our life together now, we have a home that is full of love for a child.

Maria will be a great mother for many reasons, the most of important of which is her love for children, a love so evident in the time she spends with our nephews. She so loves playing with and teaching them.

Part of what will make Dave such a great father is his kindness. Since I've fallen in love with him, I have trusted him to never be mean - and it is still true. Even when we are irritable with each other, he is not mean. I believe kids need kindness, both when being encouraged and when learning limits - and Dave has that.

And, Dave can still play with the best of them - he is especially good at goofing around with our nephews - they feel safe with him.

We have so much we want to give a child - not the least of which is where we live: a small town in upstate New York (the real Upstate, not that just-north-of-New-York-City upstate!).

Our life here allows us to live local: we can walk to schools, the local library, and kid friendly restaurants; we eat local produce from farms and a local food cooperative.
