Welcome to our profile!

Hello - We are Peter and Gerard. Through this profile we invite you to learn more about us and our desire to build a family through adoption. It is our hope that by reading our words and looking at pictures of our life together, you will gain a sense of who we are, our dedication to family and community, and how prepared and committed we are to bringing a child into our lives.

Our Life

Introduced by mutual friends, we met five years ago and were immediately inseparable. It was clear from the start that our values, approach to life, senses of humor, and loyalty to family and friends made us a perfect match.

We are both hard working and enjoy our jobs very much. Gerard is a consultant to education and charity organizations. He is one of several owners of his firm which gives him significant flexibility - allowing him to work from home several days a week. Peter works in magazine publishing. However, the times we enjoy the most are the times we spend together cooking dinner and catching up on the day, exploring the many museums in the City, taking in a play at the theatres nearby, dining with friends and family, or taking our dog Dave on an early evening walk in Central Park. We love the diversity, energy, and culture of the City.

We love to travel, explore the world and experience new cultures. We enjoy trying the traditional foods of countries we visit, exploring museums and historical sites, and, even in one case, climbing a temperamental volcano in Guatemala!

Our Home & Community

We live on a tree-lined, residential street in New York City, and we love it! Our building is very diverse and our neighbors are a close knit group. There are many playgrounds within walking distance from our apartment and Central Park is steps away. Our apartment and neighborhood are safe and clean and away from the bustle of the City center.

On the weekends, we leave the City and head to our house on the Connecticut Shoreline. This is a very special place to us, as we were married there last year. Located in a small, picturesque town founded in the 1600s, our house sits next to a nature preserve, a large corn field, and a natural swimming hole which we use daily during the warmer months.

We spend our time entertaining family and friends along with their many children. We love to grill, play music, go for long hikes in the nearby nature preserve, and visit the local farmers' markets. In the summer, we swim at the nearby beaches on Long Island Sound. In the colder months, we make big dinners, build fires, watch old movies, and catch up on reading. During the frequent winter snows, we head outdoors to go sledding with the neighborhood families.

We love our life which moves between both the City and the country. Our families - siblings, parents, nieces and nephews - love it too. It gives us an excuse to all get together twice as often!

Gerard ( by Peter)

From the moment I met Gerard, I knew he was "the one." We just clicked - and laughed! Gerard is one of the funniest people I have ever met. He is the kind of person whom everyone gravitates to in a room because of his energy and wit. He tells hilarious stories and brings laughter wherever he goes. Upon meeting Gerard, I knew that in our life together there would never be a dull moment.

Gerard is also incredibly kind, sensitive, smart and strong, and is "a natural" with children. There can be fifteen adults in a room and all of the kids are focused on Gerard because of his playful spirit. Gerard also has a commitment to serving others and a strong sense of guiding principles and ethics. He is not afraid to stand up for those in need and always does what he knows is fair and right. Gerard also cares deeply about family and friends. Barely a day goes by when he hasn't talked to one member of his family or another, and he is the favorite "Uncle Ger" to his 9 nieces and nephews all of whom he diapered when they were babies!

Peter (by Gerard)

Peter is the kindest, gentlest, and most loyal person I know. From the minute of our first meeting, I could see so clearly his sincere interest in others and his ability to focus on the good things in life at all times. Peter embraces life with passion and optimism and nurtures all those around him. He literally wakes up with a smile on his face ready to embrace even the most hectic day.

Peter gives so generously of himself to others. Each Saturday morning he wakes up early to volunteer at a local horse riding camp for children and young adults with disabilities near our home in Connecticut. The children adore him. Peter serves as a "sidewalker" - ensuring that the children remain safely mounted on the horse during the one hour walk. He has never missed a day. Peter is disciplined and honors his commitments. He takes his promises to others seriously - a quality that will make him a wonderful and dedicated father. He will be the perfect "sidewalker" for our child.

Life with Family & Friends

We are very close to our families, both of whom are nearby. Gerard is from a big family so there is rarely a day where we are not in contact with parents, siblings, and the growing number of nieces and nephews. Both of our families have gotten to know each other over the years and holidays are lively and special affairs.

We have a wide circle of close friends many of whom we have known individually since childhood. The weekends are the best time to visit and catch up with these friends and their growing families, often hosting them for a weekend at the house. We make meals, explore the trails and beaches, and take turns pushing the kids on our tree swing or playing hide and seek in our large yard.

Parenting and Traditions

Knowing that we would be parents one day, we have built our lives and made decisions with children in mind - choosing to live in places that have good schools, a strong and diverse community, and that are safe and nurturing for kids. Our homes are perfect for children and located where there is so much to explore and lots of room to play.

We want to be there every step of the way for our child and can't wait to be parents. We look forward to sharing family traditions with our child - from trimming the Christmas tree, to mooing at the cows each time we drive past the farm up the road, to eating dinner at the table as a family each night. Gerard, can't wait to teach our child to swim. Peter can't wait to read bedtime stories. We will raise our child with the same love, warmth, stability, and family support that we experienced as kids and that we still enjoy today.
